With so many different genres of music, people typically cannot name every single one that is out there. One of them is “anti-pop” which is another form of pop music. Although it can be catchy, the lyrics are very deep and can be a bit more sad than what is typically represented in the genre. That’s where the word “anti” comes in. This form of music, and the artists included in the genre, aim to help the listener feel better through the music they are listening to. It can be hard to find music like this sometimes, but it is not impossible.

Multi-instrumentalist and songwriter tiLLie is an anti-pop artist who succeeds in portraying messages to her fans with her heavier lyrics found on her new EP, Loud Mouth. This new release consists of four songs that are quite different from each other, both sound wise and lyrically.

The first song “Faith” is a great opener for the EP. The listener may feel like they’re in a concert that starts off slow, but once the chorus hits, all of the lights appear and there is so much energy. One cannot help but dance to this track, even if you are sitting down while listening, you are bound to move around in your seat. It is a catchy tune with a meaningful message, and the bridge is fun as well with tiLLie speaking in a sassy voice instead of singing the lyrics, “dear whoever the fuck is out there / I’m not really sure why I’m talking to you”. The “na na na’s” in the song will make you want to sing along to it as well.

The next two songs on the EP are more laid back. “Loud Mouth” is strong instrumentally, having a futuristic influence that resembles something that could be from outer space. It is an edgier song for sure. “Mood Swings” has powerful lyrics that can really move someone. With lyrics like “don’t tell me to chill out” and “if you’re messed up, this one’s for you”, fans and listeners will be able to connect and relate to tiLLie on a deeper level.

“Whole Wide World,” the end of the EP, begins with a rather haunting sound, setting the mood for the entire track. The overall sound of this song make those listening to it feel powerful in some way. When she says, “be brave, be strong, be so damn tough,” it makes you want to be all those things as you listen to the emotion and passion behind her voice. Although not all of the lyrics are very happy, it is a motivating song without a doubt.

This EP is definitely one that motivates the listener. Whether you are struggling with outside sources or with your inner self, Loud Mouth will make you feel better and more empowered, giving you more strength to be a better you. You will be feeling a lot of energy while listening to all four songs. It will make you want to move and throw your fist in the air as if you are suddenly feeling stronger about yourself and who you are. Take a listen to it if you have not yet. It could help you during some of your dark moments.
