Don’t Let PVRIS’ Epic Video Distract from Lyrics’ Lament

0

“I don’t need a metaphor for you to know I’m miserable,” PVRIS frontwoman Lyndsey Gunnulfsen sings.

Regardless, the lyrics and visuals for “What’s Wrong” remind that it’s an effortless part of the alt-rock group’s brand–spearheaded ever so intricately by Gunnulfsen herself.

With the reveal of their second single off forthcoming sophomore album All We Know of Heaven, All We Need of Hell, PVRIS present its goth Gatsby-esque video. Joining forces with Raúl Gonzo once again, co-director Gunnulfsen continues to strip away the White Noise era and reveal the heady interim: with skin that doesn’t feel like home and a throne she never asked to be on, she’s “just a goddamn corpse in a centerfold.”

Despite a reluctant nod to fans’ elevating her to sex-symbol status, the lyric “take the mirror from the wall so I can’t see myself at all” is truly heartbreaking–metaphor or not.

Pre-order All We Know of Heaven, All We Need of Hell here. Catch PVRIS on tour through November 30.
