LA-based band Symmetry just released their brand new song “Gotta Wake You Up,” a catchy rock-infused track that is bound to get stuck in your head. Catching up with bassist Will Weiner, he talked all about the band’s influence, their brand new single and what you can expect from Symmetry later this year.

For those that may not know, how and when did Symmetry get together and form?

Symmetry formed three years ago when Jared (guitar) and Mike (vocals) met through a mutual friend while attending Musicians Institute in Hollywood. Max (drums) came shortly afterwards through a friend and finally Will (bass) came from the same music school as Mike and Jared a few months later. We got along perfectly then and here we are three years later as tight as ever.

You guys are from Los Angeles. Has L.A. influenced Symmetry’s music in any way, and if so, how?

Other than the amazing memories we’ve created together in this sunny SoCal town, Los Angeles really hasn’t influenced our music. We feel that no matter where in the world the four of us are, we’ll be able to make good music together because of the chemistry we share.

You are gearing up to release your new single “Gotta Wake You Up.” What was the writing and recording process for the track like, and was there anything in particular that inspired the song?

We wrote this song with an old friend of Will and Max named Michael Raphael. He’s written for a lot of big TV shows as well as written and co-written with a lot of great artists. He co-wrote one of the songs McBusted played on the tour in which we were the supporting act. We met backstage for a minute and joked about, “Well, fancy running into you here!” It really was a small world moment! We recently got to talking and agreed that it would be cool to get together and talk about the possibility of writing together. When we met, we ended up cranking out the whole song! We got back to the studio and immediately started recording it with good production and here we are!

You are very active on your social media accounts. Since forming, how do you think social media has impacted Symmetry whether positively or negatively?

Social media has become a necessity to us as a band. When we first started, we really didn’t know much about it. Now we’re constantly checking our phones, keeping up with our Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram accounts, and replying to just about everyone who reaches out to us. It’s been really cool keeping up with the new people who check out our band and even cooler seeing certain people tweeting and commenting more and more. Social media has made it so that talking to bands you like is no longer a dream but now a reality! This seems like the perfect time for shameless self-promotion!!!

The alternative music scene is very saturated with bands these days. What do you think makes Symmetry stand out from the other bands in the genre?

What makes us stand out is that we like to have fun and most importantly be ourselves. The four guys playing music on stage are no different than the four guys being goofy and spontaneous off stage. That being said, nothing makes us happier than getting a whole room full of people to have fun with us! It seems that a lot of people today are too cool to just relax, be themselves, and have a good time. We’re trying to break the current trend of negativity and start a new trend of positivity and being yourself!

What are your plans for the rest of the year (touring, studio time, etc.)?

We constantly write and demo new songs and pick the best to take into the studio. There’s some good new stuff cookin’ and we can’t wait to share our new music with the world! There’s talk of a tour coming soon so please stay posted on our social media pages! If you’ve got any questions for us at all, tweet us @SymmetryTheBand!
