Don’t Miss Out: The Interrupters
Interview by Haley Black

Festival season is in full swing, and with that comes the biggest traveling festival of the summer- Warped Tour. This year the tour features a ton of throwback bands like Good Charlotte, Sum 41, Less Than Jake, New Found Glory and so many more! And while we love these bands and appreciate their contribution to the scene, we want to introduce you to some of the bands that you may not know about. Who knows? You might get introduced to your new favorite band.

For the next installment of Don’t Miss Out, we want to introduce you to Los Angeles ska band, The Interrupters. Read the interview below!

After being solo and collaborating with big name artists, why did you choose to start your own band?

I grew up playing in bands. I’ve done a few projects as a solo artist, but it feels good going back to my roots. When I started writing songs with Kevin and recording them with him and his brothers, it worked so well that it was a no-brainer. (Aimee Interrupter-vocalist)

Ska/punk isn’t as popular as it was in the late 90s, so what influenced your decision to get into this genre?

We grew up listening to punk and ska, so when we were writing and recording these songs, we just played what was natural. We didn’t over think it or concern ourselves with how popular it would be. We all wanted to make music that would be fun to play live, and I think we are doing that! (Note: The rest of the questions are answered by guitarist Kevin Bivona)

How has each of the members’ unique musical backgrounds cultivated The Interrupters?

Well 3 out of the 4 us grew up playing music together, and all 4 of us have very similar tastes. We have all played in different bands of different genres, and I think that we feel at right at home in this band. Musically as individuals, we are all playing roles in this band that feel very natural to us, and that’s why it is so fun!

After releasing the debut album in 2014, are there any plans to release a follow-up album soon?

Yes! In fact, we just released our second album “Say it Out Loud” on June 24th. You can find it on our website, iTunes, or wherever music is available.

Did you grow up going to Warped Tour? How does it feel being a part of the tour this year?

We did grow up going to Warped Tour, so it feels a little surreal to be a part of this traveling punk rock summer camp. It feels like our name just got added to a list that has so many of our favorite bands are already on!

What bands are you most looking forward to seeing/playing alongside at Warped Tour and why?

We’ve toured with Less Than Jake and Reel Big Fish before so we love those guys! We’re also really looking forward to hanging with Masked Intruder and Teenage Bottlerocket all summer. We love their records. They’re on constant rotation in our tour van.

Why should people who have never heard your music before check out The Interrupters at Warped Tour?

We’re a little bit different than most of the other new bands you might find at Warped. Hopefully you come check us out and walk away with a catchy tune stuck in your head and a little bit of ‘pick it up’ in your step.
