June first marks the start of summer break for college and high-school students alike. Here to make sure you start your long break off right musically, our staff writer Rebecca is here to share her summer playlist, highlighting all the important tracks you need in your Spotify queue this summer. You can also check out the full playlist below.

“The Beach” by All Time Low

How could a song called “The Beach” not scream summer? When I think of the scorching summer months, my mind goes directly to his song, every time. With lyrics including “I’m dying in this summer heat” and “They’ll never, never, never take the summer from me”, The Beach is definitely the anthem I blast in my car.

“Lightning in a Bottle” by The Summer Set

The Summer Set has a way with infectious melodies that almost force you to “dance in the backseat”. This is one of them. Lightning in a Bottle is one of my absolute favorite songs to turn up and sing at the top of my lungs. This song puts in the best mood and makes me want to go do all those typical, fun, summer things.

“Ain’t It Fun” by Paramore

Some songs are so catchy and fun that even when they come on your iPod at least twice a day, every day, they still don’t get old. That is the exact relationship I have with this song and I still turn it up every time. The melody and sassy lyrics of Ain’t It Fun are just that, fun.

“Up We Go” by Lights

Does anyone remember back in September when I reviewed Lights’ Little Machines record and I talked about this song? Well guess what? I still love it. I consider this a fun summer song and Lights definitely knows what she’s doing to make me have this on repeat.

“Oceanbound” by From Thin Air

Again, the title of this song should scream summer and when you listen to it, the summer vibes will be even greater. I can yell this chorus and be in the best sunshine state of mind ever. Living in Denver, I often want to run away to the coast but never as much as when I listen to this track.
