No Bragging Rights – The Concrete Flower

No Bragging Rights is an up and coming post-hardcore band that has been heavily influenced by the Hardcore (punk), pop-punk, and metalcore scene. The Concrete Flower is No Bragging Rights 5th studio album, however it is easily their most polished album release yet. Earlier releases may have been heavier than this release, however I fail to see how any fan of the band could possibly be upset with the direction they chose. No song is slower than 140 bpm, which translates to this album staying true to it’s punk roots. Mike Perez’s vocals are angelic, raw, emotional, and extremely expressive.

The Concrete Flower is definitely an emotional album, themes of failing, pursuing your passions, love, and hurt flow throughout the whole album. The past paced punk that lies underneath the emotional lyrics pulls you in and makes you jump up and down as Mike screams out all of his deepest fears and lessons that he’s learned over the years. If you like pop-punk, punk-rock, and post-hardcore, I highly recommend this album. It brought me back to the glory days before metalcore took over with it’s pre planned screamed versus and clean choruses.
