Northernmost – Northernmost
Review by Trevor Figge

Northernmost is an upcoming emo band out of Taunton, Massachusetts who recently put out their self-titled debut album. A 12-track album packed with songs of that worthy of my emo stamp of approval. Each song is dripping with emotion it is almost impossible to not cry as Jesse Field’s cracking and wavering voice takes you through an emotional journey. When I first started listening to Northernmost’s album the first thought that came to my mind is with guitar tone reminiscent on Balance and Composure and a singing style like Jesse Lacey on Brand New’s “The Devil and God Are Raging Inside Me”. So it is needless to say that this band has a whole lot of potential.

Northernmost’s self-titled LP s both opens and closes on a with very strong songs; “Basic Space” is an instrumental piece that leads into “Marble” an emotionally griping song about love, loss and moving on. Where as “I Wish I Was Honest” is well… a rather honest song that deals with loosing someone you love. But that seems to be the theme of the album, dealing with loss and moving on. The strongest part of this album would have to be the parts where Northernmost flex’s their punk muscles and explodes in a fit of aggression and passion. There is nothing like hearing vocals crack and guitars distort on an a new release in the scene, it’s rare but a beautiful thing.

In closing when looking at the first LP that Northernmost has put out it is clear to see that they will fit right into the emo scene with all of their contenders and heroes, because they write honest heartfelt songs that pull at your heartstrings; musically and lyrically. This is one band to be on the lookout for if you are a fan of Balance and Composure or The Hotelier.
