The Lovebirds

2

Folk/Pop duo, The Lovebirds, create a whirlwind of excitement both on the stage and off. Hailing from San Diego, CA, these girls draw from influences such as The Indigo Girls and Tegan and Sara.  The duo’s range of musical talent and their eccentric personalities create a flair that can’t be matched. After all, not many bands can pull off bow ties and glockenspiels.

How did you form?
We were both involved in the San Diego music scene, each with our own solo acts and bands. We eventually befriended each other and started writing together and singing harmonies at each other’s shows. Eventually we started dating and began performing together as The Lovebirds on a regular basis, and that has been our primary project ever since, even after we decided to end our romantic partnership.

What has been the highlight of your career?
We’re lucky that music has taken us on many adventures, but one notable experience was being selected as an Official Showcase at the 2011 FAR West Folk Alliance in Eugene, OR. Earlier in the year, we experienced some trying times with Veronica’s hospitalization, and this was one of our first performances after her release. It gave us a goal to work toward and an opportunity to travel and meet more music-minded people from all over the country. This was also the same time we got our first “tour tattoo” together, which has become an annual tradition!

Why should people listen to you? What makes you different?
We’re kind of like the Captain Planet of musical duos (which should also answer the question of how old we are). Veronica is such a talented musician and I love writing lyrics, but when our powers combine, we bring out the best in each other’s songwriting and vocal abilities. Also, we’re super humble.  😉

From a performance and social media standpoint, we are very vulnerable with our audience, and that’s what people seem to connect with the most. We want to share our highest highs and our lowest lows with listeners because we know they feel the same things we feel on a daily basis. When our music becomes a way for them to reference or articulate their own emotions, that’s the icing on the cake!

“Our harmonies. They can stand alone as melodies, weaving in and out in unique ways.” – Veronica

  1. I had the immmense pleasure of seeing this duo when they came to Oregon last week. I was also lucky enough to be trained vocally by the talent Veronica May in my formative years. I am always awestruck by their ethereal sound. Their harmonies and lyrics are out of this world. I will forever be a Lovebirds fan! <3 to Lindsey and Veronica! I hope I win the slap bracelet;)

  2. Doesn’t every Lovebirds fan want us to accessorize??!!! Already styling in my glasses! Seriously, down here in San Diego they shine bright and we want more folks to know their music! Well worth the listen!
